About Us

Founded in 2005, The Center is a human services nonprofit organization centered on the diverse needs of individuals and families in Kaufman and surrounding communities.

The Center promises to extend compassion to everyone served. We are committed to treating everyone with dignity and we are dedicated to helping them find peace and community.

Mission

The mission of The Center is to unite the Kaufman-area community to offer hunger awareness and relief to those in need, empowerment to take the next step, and encouragement to restore hope.

Timeline

2005
After two years of assessing community needs and exploring ways to address them, and in response to Hurricane Katrina evacuees seeking shelter in the Kaufman area, local churches joined forces to establish the Kaufman Christian Help Center.
2006
Kaufman Christian Help Center moved into a facility in downtown Kaufman and opened as a community food pantry and began its partnership with the North Texas Food Bank.
2010
Kaufman Christian Help Center purchased its current property, a 3200 sq. ft. facility to expand the food pantry.
2012
Kaufman Christian Help Center established programs to provide school supplies for local students, Thanksgiving meals for families and Christmas toys for local children.
2017
The Center expanded its vision to include partnering with resources that will help our neighbors move from dependency to a self-sustaining life. As part of that expansion, there was a rebrand from Kaufman Christian Help Center to The Center.
2020
The Center responded to post-COVID needs by expanding food choices at the pantry and operating mobile distribution sites in Kaufman and Kemp. The pantry was updated to provide a welcoming environment and efficient service for client choice shopping.
2024
The Center completed the expansion of the current building including adding a walk-in freezer to expand storage to provide a wider variety of food options for our neighbors. We also added Financial and Job Readiness Courses to continue our mission of providing resources to move neighbors from dependency to self-sufficiency
